' He doesn't care how many people die from coronavirus and is acting like a 'lunatic' - Robert De Niro blasts Donald Trump
Hollywood actor, Robert De Niro, has come out to blast US President Donald Trump, saying the leader doesn't care about the number of Americans that have died from Coronavirus while describing the situation at the White House as 'Shakespearean'
Trump has been criticized for his handling of the Coronavirus pandemic that has killed over 82,000 Americans as at Wednesday morning, and one time last month suggested the possibility of people ingesting disinfectants to kill the virus.
De Niro, a usual critic of Trump, during an appearance on Newsnight decided to restart his feud with the billionaire businessman.
Speaking to Newsnight host Emily Maitlis, De Niro said;, 'The situation in white House is Shakespearean,'
'You've got a lunatic saying things that people are trying to dance around'.
De Niro, 76, continued: 'It's appalling, it's appalling. He wants to be re-elected, he doesn't even care how many people die.'
After he was challenged by Newsnight host Emily Maitlis that Mr Trump's fanbase would disagree, De Niro said: 'No, he doesn't care for those people. And the people who he pretends to care about are the people he has the most disdain for because he could care less about them.
'They might like to tell themselves or delude themselves, but he doesn't care about them.'
'It's been very strange becaus e New York is kind of like a ghost town, it's surreal then you see other parts of the world, other great big cities of the world, are also in the same situation.
'It's interesting, it's kind of like a science fiction movie but it's real.'
