Nigeria leapfrogs Ghana, now leader in West Africa & fifth in Africa with Coronavirus cases


Nigeria with a tally of 2388 Coronavirus cases is the new leader in West Africa overtaking Ghana whose case count as at Sunday, 3rd of May is 2169



Nigeria is also now the fifth overall on the continent and second most impacted in sub-Saharan Africa.
                                                         

As of close of day May 2, the NCDC recorded 220 new cases of COVID19 in Nigeria.
According to the NCDC, out of the 220 new cases, 62 were recorded in Lagos, 52 in FCT, 31 in Kaduna, 13 in Sokoto, 10 in Kebbi, 9 in Yobe, 6 in Borno, 5 in Edo, 5 in Bauchi, 4 in Gombe, 4 in Enugu, 4 in Oyo, 3 in Zamfara, 2 in Nasarawa, 2 in Osun, 2 in Ebonyi, 2 in Kwara, 2 in Kano and 2 in Plateau.

                                                        
According to the latest figures published by Johns Hopkins University, 3.44M have been infected, 1.1 million have recovered while there have been 244,000 deaths.
                                         
 In Africa , South Africa leads with number of cases, due to the nation carrying out the largest number of tests, but Egypt has the highest death rate, an alarming 415..
                                        

South Africa: 6,336 cases / 123 deaths                                              
Egypt = 6,193/ 415 deaths
Morocco = 4,729/ 173 deaths
Algeria = 4,295 /   459 deaths
Nigeria: 2,388 cases / 85 deaths
Ghana: 2,169 cases / 18 deaths
